Being naturally a potter Andrii Kyrychenko prefers using the unique properties of clay. The image of a fruit or a shell continues to develop in his vases. Work on each is complete when the fruit is ripe yet the life of the fruit continues in the vase. His work is about the capacity of art to fix life. Any fruit has a heart, its content. The interlacing of fibres, which originate in the heart of the embryo, creates an outer surface shell that protects the seed. The task to connect the internal and external structure of the object has many solutions and has huge creative potential. The path from the heart of the embyro to its outer surface has no algorithm and is essentially an object. The beginning and the end of this path creates the architecture between the opposite surfaces.
Andrii Kyrychenko tries not to interfere with the material to let it realize itself. Clay properties are so unique that in the author’s approach, to isolate it would be destructive. For him, the clay is a co-author and teacher. He prefers using chamotte mass, a ductile clay with a light sandy colour after firing. For him, it shows better textures. Slips, soda engobes and glazes are used to finish the process.
Andrii Kyrychenko was born in 1982 in Kyiv. He received his diploma of telecommunications engineer in the State University of Information and Telecommunication Technologies in Kyiv.
