Alena Kuznetsova works with mediums such as painting, graphics, land art, video, ceramic sculpture and installation, but her leading medium is painting. She focuses on the philosophical concept of image in art, as well as change, transformation, and the phenomenon of time. For more than 10 years, she has researched colour as a stand-alone medium in an abstract approach and the gradual splitting and dissolving of the « solid » academic form into pure vibration.
Life is deeply mutable. Only death is constant. She observes it clearly. To be truthful to life and to herself, she changes her style, mediums and topics. Her series “Kill Bill” sends a message about how a place changes, a theme that matters to many Ukrainians. It’s about billboards and the time that ruins and changes them, changes everything once created: images, places and ideas… These ruined billboards are local features. They can appear like abstract painting and there are plenty of them along the roadsides. The road itself a topic that we have to face which has become more complicated and long.
Alena Kuznetsova was born in 1986 in Archangelsk. She received a master’s degree in Fine Arts in the KNUBA.
